First ever bloom, allbeit very scarce :D in my homegrown little Rowan tree (sorbus aucuparia).
This tiny thing (about 25cm) is one of my very first bonsai attempst, from a harvested seedling back in 1996 or 1997 I think. It was never grown in the ground pot potted up, like a true beginner.
It is what it is, hardly any wiring, always by pruning, and pruning some more because Rowan does need a bit more drastic pruning if you want more than a few straight branches that go straight up like a rocket.

Birch bonsai awakening for spring 2020
The birch goes on...
Seedling 2008, chopped and potted up in 2011 and starting regrowing and training.
Many years ago, someone on IBCforum was persistant in the fact that birch don't last longer than 8 years in pot. Well, I can stop praying now? :-)
Yes, offcourse a bonsai needs works, even when it's 'done' there will come a time you need to start over a bit, rethink, redesign... especially with broadleaved native trees.
